It doesn't matter if your routine includes frequent visits to a health spa or if this is your first massage at home, you probably don't know any of the essential post-massage tips.
Here is a list of Don'ts: What you should and shouldn't do after treatment. These are some of the things you should do to maximize your therapy experience.
Don't #1. Don't forget the water.
The result of not drinking water after a massage is this: Your circulation, blood, and lymphatic systems become slow due to the massage. A detoxifying massage is impossible if your lymphatic system doesn't do its job.
Instead, sip a glass of water.
You cannot substitute water for tea, coffee, or alcohol. These beverages are diuretics (they make you urinate more, and your body loses more water).
Don't #2. Don't shower right away.
Many of our clients confess to taking a shower right after their massage session ends, mostly to clean off any oil. This is a big mistake, a really big mistake. The massage heats up the essential oil, but they still need to penetrate the skin cells for an hour. Instead, wait at least one hour before getting in the shower.
Allow the oils to seep into your skin, then take a warm shower.
Don't #3. Don't shower with hot water.
It is tempting to relax in a warm bath after a long relaxing massage. This is another dangerous idea. If you have a muscle injury, hot showers will only make the condition worse. For pain relief, use cold water. You can take a warm shower instead.
Warm water is just the right temperature for relaxing your body without irritating your muscles. If you are looking for pain relief, you can use ice or cold water.
Don't #4. After a massage, don't eat a heavy meal.
Massages make it easy to feel hungry. This is due to the increased blood circulation, which causes all body systems to enter high-performance mode, even the digestive system. An excessive meal will result in your body feeling sluggish and bloated. Eat a light snack instead.
You'll feel more energetic if you have a light, healthy snack. The heavy meal can be saved for later in your day.
Don't #5. Don't go outside or do anything strenuous.
Relax mode is achieved by an hour-long massage. It's better to let the body and mind relax than to awaken them. Your muscles can be injured by any strenuous activity, like gymming. Instead, do some light activity.
Try prolonging your feeling of calmness and relaxation after a massage. Relax, read, watch Netflix, chill out, or do whatever you feel like doing to relax your body and mind. A massage should be booked for a day when you can rest assured that you will be at home for at least 6-8 hours.
